March 2 Run

Today's Run

Despite a very active race weekend, we had the best turnout since our blanket collection run last November. There were at least 27 of us out there today and the weather was idyllic.  The ranks were swelled by three visitors, including Kim Halley, my friend and member of our group in the early 90's.  She and family were visiting the theme parks from Greenville SC.  We also had Jonathon, visiting from Birmingham UK.  Jonathan ran with us a year ago when training for the Manchester Marathon.  And thirdly, we had Bob Milan, an acquaintance of Mike from Greensboro NC.

This healthy turnout was a bit of a surprise since this has been a very busy race weekend.  Yesterday there were several races put on by a new race promoter in town hosting the "Best Damn Race".  Then there are two half marathons this morning.  One is the Swamphouse Half (Arwa and Eamonn ran this one) and Haley who ran in the Seaside area.

Best Damn Race

Congratulations to Jennifer and Ralph on their Half Marathon PR's.  Jennifer turned in a blistering 1:32:18 pace which earned her a first place in her age category!!  Ralph did not report his time, but also registered a PR/ Congratulations to both of you.  Seth also competed.

I was unaware of a new promoter hosting a race in Orlando.  The races (5K, 10K and Half Marathon) drew a fairly large turnout.  It would be nice if those of you who ran yesterday give the group some feedback on your experience.

Gates River Run

Geralynn is doing the Gates River Run today with her daughter this morning.

Last Weekend's Races

Kirsty posted a 5:04 in the Donna Marathon, minute slower than her PR time. She loves the race course.

Atif reports running a 1:52 at Gasparilla last weekend.  Liz also competed but did not report her time.

Animal Shelter Initiative

Carly and another ORC representative joined us today to make a plea to participate in a program for homeless dogs.  I refer you to the ORC website which I assume will post info on the details.

Daylight Savings Time

NB: Daylight Savings Time starts next Sunday!  Early to bed highly recommended next Saturday evening!!

Have a great week!

Jack
