February 23rd Run

Today's Run

Our last February run drew some 18 people.  It was a male-dominated group as only Carolyn, Lorrie, Claudia and Kim turned out.  Colorado Jack showed up and shared his recent 22 degrees below zero story at home!  We also hosted Rick, a visitor from Madison WI, who shared a similar war story.

Today we had some faces we haven't seen in a while, including Brad, Danny and David.  Danny has been dealing with an injury which seems to be slowly healing.

I assume that the paucity of the fairer sex was due in part to the Donna Marathon in Jacksonville and the Princess Half at Disney.  The Sunday Marathonfest group was down to only four people this morning and the Morse Blvd crew looked a bit light also.

Kirsty is running Donna today and has raised over $1700 for the cause. That's great, Kirsty!! Let us know how you fare!!

Seth, who joined us today, completed the Ft. Lauderdale A1A Marathon last Sunday and turned in a 4:25 performance which was some 19 minutes faster than last year!!!. Congrats to you also on an amazing performance.  You can follow Seth's blistering agenda at:  http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~sethe/MarathonStatesMap.html

Next Weekend

We will have two visitors next Sunday.  One is Kim Halley, a long-term runner with the group when she was based at the Naval Training Center almost 20 years ago!  Kim gets the credit for pulling me through to my marathon PR at age 60.  I'm hoping that Geralynn will make it over from the Coast and help make it a true reunion.  The three of us have put in mucho miles over the years.

Also, we will be hosting Jonathon Hemus from the U.K.  Jonathon joined us last March when he was training for the Manchester Marathon, which he ran in  3:57!

Jonathan says: "I'm very much looking forward to meeting with the Orlando Runners again - but please can you arrange for it to be warmer this year?

Jonathon's last run with us was at 40 degrees.  Today's temperature was 64.  Hopefully we can oblige!

Thought for the Week

The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.  –UNKNOWN

Have a great week!

Jack

PS: Here is an invitation from today's guest Rick from Madison:

"Thanks for the run, Jack. That 30 year tradition is quite an accomplishment! It is always fun to meet runners in different parts of the country (or world) and it sure makes the miles go easily. If anyone from the group happens to come up to Wisconsin we can offer a variety of running groups - both road and trails - and plenty of races  Here's one I'm on the organizing team for - the MadCity 100K is the USATF National Championship:" www.madcity100k
