December 22 Run

Today's Run

We had a surprisingly robust turnout for the weekend before Christmas. I counted 18 people plus Cheryl's Pumpkin Puppy. A few highlights:

  • Lytle and Brian joined us from Chicago and will be here over the holidays.  They are enjoying a welcome respite from winter with today's balmy 'Winter" Park weather.  You may recall that Lytle had to abort her Chicago Marathon training when she fell and broke a shoulder.  She still has a plate which needs to be removed, but has been cleared by her doctor to start running again.  Always great to see you, Lytle and Brian!
  • We greeted a new arrival in town from Tulsa OK.  Damien joined us for a short run, his first ever as it turned out.  Once we found out that he is a newbie, we re-directed him back to Park Avenue on a three mile route.
  • After a long absence, Carlo reappeared once again.  Good to see you back, Carlo!

We noted that there was an unusual number of cars on the Avenue and were scratching our heads about who and where the owners were.  I solved the mystery later at Paneras. The Lake Monroe Running Club decided to meet in Winter Park today.  Thus there were four different groups meeting on the avenue today. That's a PR!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Also, we hope that those of us who celebrated Chanukah earlier this month had a wonderful celebration!

Finally, a Happy Birthday to Marty, my long-term running buddy who will celebrate his birthday on December 25th!!!  I can't reveal how old he will be, but I can tell you that he turned sixty last year.

Please come join us for the last run of the year next Sunday, including you who are on the bench.  I know this group includes Chris, Danny and Jeff.  We hope each of you is healing well!

Have a great week!

Jack

PS:  I am attaching the blog of a wonderful young man whom I have known for many years.  He recently flew a time-critical mercy mission which is so in the spirit of the season. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.  It brings home that there are a lot of good people in this world!
