December 23

Today's First Run of Winter

Only a dozen people turned out this morning and one, Lindsay, was a visitor from Chicago who showed up us Florida wimps by running is a short sleeve shirt at 40 degrees!  I already had a text message from her when I finished my run today, thanking us for our hospitality.

The good news was that there was a spectacular sunrise, no wind and the temperature came up fast.  All in all a wonderful morning to be alive and chugging along.

Came home to find an e-mail from Kim Halley who ran with us for years when she was stationed at the old Naval Training Station.  She was between planes at ORC. I remember Kim particularly because she pulled me through to my marathon PR at Disney 18 years ago.

In the meantime, Geralynn was a no show today after promising to come over from the beach and do her now famous Christmas run!  We were looking for you, Geralynn, to jump out from behind a bush along the way.  What happened??

Next Sunday

December 30 will be the last run of 2012 and I hope we have a good turnout to say goodbye to 2012!  I'm completing 25 years of running with the group and hope I have another 25 left in me.  Alas, that will not be the case, but I hope I can squeeze in some more good years.

My good friend and fellow runner Bob will be returning from Vermont at the end of the week and I am hoping he can join us next Sunday.  With his return, I will drop one more notch in our age group because, friend or not, Bob never lets me beat him in a race.  I have come to accept that fact with a reasonable degree of equanimity.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to all!   Hope to see you next Sunday!!

Jack
