November 18

Today's Run

Today's magic number was a turnout of 20 people, including Leslie who is visiting from Colorado and who has been cured of her recent injury. She looks good to go for Goofy!  She now believes that rest really works as a cure for running ills.  Would that more of us realize that!

The group included several new faces this morning. I believe they are ORC members checking out the Sunday Run.

Dylan is on taper for Space Coast Marathon and the rest are building for upcoming races. I assume that Cheryl and Jeff also are in a taper mode.

Condolences to Marty

Please join me in offering our sincere condolences to Marty on the passing of his Father in Phoenix, Arizona a week ago.

Updated Marathon Schedule (Attached)

I have added Kirsty for Goofy and have deleted Danny on the list.  More on Danny below

OUC Half

The ORC still needs volunteers to work the race.  Please contact Dave or Michelle if you are available.

Congratulations to Danny Banks

I got a nice note from Danny this week. He has had a lot happening.  Please join me in congratulating him on his promotion to a new job as Special Agent in Charge for ht FDLE Orlando region where he will oversee all investigations (his former job) plus forensic lab efforts for the Orlando region.

Danny also had shoulder surgery last Tuesday and will be on the bench for a spell. This means that he has withdrawn from running OUC and Space Coast this year. That said, he is raring to go and will be back soon!

Congratulations and good wishes from all of Danny.   We hope to see you back soon!

I should have died last year?

I am sorry to poke fun at Florida Hospital because they are a tremendous source of good in promoting healthy living in our community.  That said, it appears that their efforts in one area have got a bit awry.  At age 78, (as you might guess) I am kind of interested in the state of my longevity.  So I could not resist taking a test the Hospital's Healthy 100 website offers to people who want to evaluate their longevity and make desirable life style changes.

At my age, a man's fancy turns to----well, survival.  I took the test with confidence and got the results back.  THE TEST SAID I SHOULD HAVE DIED LAST YEAR!!  I was nonplussed!

Said I to myself, "surely there must be some mistake here!" So I repeated the test, adding back the inch in height which I have lost over the years.  Well, that gave me another year. (Go figure!) I began to consider the possibility of using a stretching machine.

At this point I indignantly shot off an e-mail to the Healthy 100 website and got an automatic response that someone out there would look into my problem and get back to me.  No answer so far.  Yesterday I decided to take the test for a third time and the results came back that I was now good for 81 years. I don't know whether to chalk this up to the power of prayer or a tweaked algorithm!

The problem is that they are still wrong.   The average life expectancy of a 78 year old is about 87 years. (That's the number I had in my head).  I'm going with the 87 year number no matter what Florida Hospital thinks!

I have a favor to ask you, and now I am serious.  Would you please go to the Healthy100.org website, scroll down to the Age/Longevity calculator and take the test to see if your results make sense. Please let me know if your results make sense.

In the meantime, I will be buying only ripe bananas.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!  See you soon.

Jack

I'll bring bananas every Sunday if you want to really hedge your bets.
