Weddings & things

Lytle and Brian Wedding

Please join me in offering our best wishes and congratulations to Lytle and Brian!  They tied the knot last Saturday and Lytle kindly sent me a picture from their wedding day.  So you will find a picture attached of the beautiful bride and the handsome groom.

As best I can recall, this is the first marriage between members of our group. Thus Lytle and Brian also have a PR!!!  It could not happen to two nicer people.  It is always a joy to see them show up for a Sunday run.

They are honeymooning at Long Bow Key and will be returning to Chicago on Friday, but not before they return here for the Turkey Trot on Thursday!  So look for them if you are planning to do the race.

Lytle and Brian—we hope to see you soon for your first appearance as man and wife!

Feedback on the Age Calculator issue

Most of the feedback on the age calculator casts doubt on the test.  I have provided Florida Hospital with our comments and they are taking them to heart (no pun intended)

Christine

Wow, that's a really long survey! My life expectancy came up as 79. I would've thought that was a little low, if only because I don't smoke, I don't drink, and I run 3-4 days a week. Ah, well.

Lynne

I tried the life calculator and ended up with 79.  I've done something similar previously and ended up with 94, which I liked much better

Seth

On your recommendation I tried it myself and got back a predicted demise at age 72. This could make sense but seems way too young to me. (I feel like I have more that 12 years remaining.) I'd have guessed something more like 80. I'm not fat, don't smoke, and have no serious family history of killer diseases.  I suspect that my large annual car mileage (~18K) was the thing that makes me prematurely mortal.  I plan to retake the test and tinker with variables.  I'll write again if any insights emerge. In the meantime I suggest we both regard results from this age calculator with more than a little skepticism.

Re-took the quiz and was able to increase my life expectancy to 75 by slightly decreasing my blood pressure (may have been estimated too high the first try) and decreasing my annual car mileage from 18K to 15K/yr. Still looks to me like this age calculator is bogus.

Jack I took the test and came out at 78(I just turned 70 a week ago)! My mom lived to 90, my dad to 89, I am planning on AT LEAST 90!! We agreed that neither of us plan to make any new plans for our limited futures.

I also asked Susan Paul take the test.  She's good to age 86. (As most of you know, Susan runs the Track Shack training programs)  Her results seem more reasonable and, absent all precincts reporting, Susan is the winner at this juncture!

Bob

Bob gave me a verbal report from VT today.  He just took the test and it told him his ticket is punched for age 79.  Bob IS 79!  I am convinced that the test is badly flawed. At least he did a little better than me, since my demise was projected to be last year.  Once again the two of us are in a race and, as usual, Bob is winning!  I've gotten used to it.
