Today's Run

A great turnout for the second week in a row. We had two new faces shoe today and two more last week. At least 20 people showed up for a 60 degree morning and Park Avenue blocked off for the Antique Auto Show.  There also were a few antique runners out there.  Our running buddy of past years, Geralynn, made her way over from the Space Coast and brought a friend.  She just did the Niagara Falls Half a week or so ago.

In the category of excused absences was Helene.  She did the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon  last night and clocked a sub 2:19, which is 36 minutes faster than her prior PR!  What a phenomenal performance, Helene!  Congratulations!  I've attached her after the race photo.  The photo before looks just like it!

Profiles in Courage

Here is an "upper" for those of us who are fighting injuries and setbacks:

Marty, Almost exactly two years ago, was the victim of a horrific biking accident which hurled him some 30 feet through the air on Howell Branch Road and left him near death.  Fast forward to this past Thursday morning when Marty and I went out for a five mile plus run.  Marty is back!  He also is coming up to a BIG birthday.  Both he and son will celebrate birthdays on December 25.

Christine suffered a pulmonary embolism this past August.  It was very scary and she was out of commission for a few months.  Several weeks ago she started back walking with Dede, then running a few miles. Today she knocked off ten miles!

Please join me in saluting Christine and Marty for their perseverance.  We are very proud of both of you!

The Foreign Desk

Rose reported in from Istanbul (now that doesn't happen very often) that she and Rich are having a wonderful time on their cruise.  They love the city, just as I do.  I ran there several years ago when there were rooftop sharpshooters to protect the attendees at an Arab economic summit meeting hosted by the Turkish government.  Very interesting, to put it mildly!!

Kirsty: You may have noticed that Kirsty's account of her tailored version of the NYC Marathon was published by the Orlando Sentinel early last week. Congratulations, Kirsty!!

Gina: I lost track of Gina until last Thursday when she reappeared.  She has started her own business and changed her e-mail address.  I finally tracked her down!  She is scheduled to do the Melbourne Music Festival Marathon in February.  We wish her every success and hope she can join us soon!

Marathon & Half Marathon Schedule

We have over two dozen or so entries for distance races thru February.  Seth has been added to the schedule for the OUC Half .and Sarasota Marathons (See attached)

Have a great week!

Jack

Congrats Helene on the PR and all other racers for their effort. Cheryl did Savannah half but gave it mediocre reviews.

I hope Marty will make it down to Park Avenue one Sunday so we can hear more of his pointed appraisal of all things wrong in this world.

By the looks of things today, Christine is packing enough on her back that she might have a food truck following her next week.

I ran a mile or more with no less than eight people this morning. Many names were dropped in today's adventure in the Thin Trade @ thintrade.com.

Love hearing the inspirational stories of everyone's triumphs! Very motivating! Jack you are too kind- photo looks the same as Pre race but don't let it fool you. I, in fact, was sweating like a pig. It just didn't show in the photo because it was dark and I wore black! Gotta love taking pics at night race! Hahaha! Have a great week everyone!
