Report from Billy Kovaly

From Billy Kovaly

"Monday morning October 22 I dropped off about 295 blankets and 12 cases of cookies and crackers at the homeless center. Looks like about 50 people went out and purchased blankets to donate.

For people that have never been inside the homeless center here is a picture. Yes they do sleep in those squares; I have seen people sleeping there on two different occasions. They sleep on mats stored in a room in back corner of photo and behind lockers on left. Off to the right, out of the photo are 25% more sleeping spaces with a food line.
Now they have mats and our blankets to sleep on. Just looking at this picture has to make you feel good about your donation. Every time I go there I feel sad at what I see, but feel good at what we do. Thank you to everyone for donating and Jack for organizing it."

Thanks to Billy for delivery of the lion's share of the blankets, for his generous food contribution and for providing a very effective visual of what homeless people go through.  The facility you are seeing in the attached photo can accommodate about 300 men. (more when the weather gets down to freezing)  Given the fact that the floor is cement, the mats are rather thin and the nights cold, you can imagine what it might feel like to pass the night in the shelter with no blanket to cover you.  The blankets you have donated make life a whole lot more bearable for these unfortunate men and you should feel very good about helping a down and out human being.

Billy's blanket count includes other blankets which came to him directly.  I believe the actual count is probably in the mid 200's, a very generous outpouring.  Once again, thanks to all of you who supported the drive.
