September 23rd Run

Today's Run

We had a healthy crowd of 18 runners (or more) turn out today. As usual, turnout and temperature tend to be inversely proportional to each other.

 

We hosted our second visitor from Australia this morning.  Jody (who runs in kilometers) joined us and turned out to be a great guy.  He enjoyed the group run so much that he will be back again in two weeks.  In between he and the family are taking a Disney cruise.  Jody hails from a small town about an hour north of Sydney.

 

We were delighted to have Dede and Christine join us this morning for a walk.  Christine has made significant progress in just one week.  Dede's knee injury seems to be coming along.  I walked with them for the first half of their three plus mile Alabama loop and got to enjoy some great conversation with them.  I actually can talk when I walk!

 

Miracle Miles 15K

Close to 1700 runners competed in the Miracle Miles 15K yesterday. Got to catch up with Andy Todd and Bob Buck, both of whom are on our Sunday Group list.  They have not been able to run with us for a while but plan to come back.  They were optimistic that Russ might also be close to shaking his injury.  Is that true, Russ?  We hope so!

 

Great to catch up with you, Andy and Todd!  Hope you can come join us soon.

 

I didn't get to see her, but Cheryl placed 2nd in her age group with a smoking 1:21 time. Congratulations!  I also was able to eke out a second place in a crowded field of three old guys.

 

This race is near and dear to my heart since our Grandson Charlie was born at Winnie Palmer Hospital and went through major heart surgery there less than a year ago.

 

Our October 21 Blanket Collection

Please plan to join us for our Fifth Annual Blanket Collection on 10/21 and encourage any runners you know to come join us. The event is posted on the City of Winter Park Calendar of Events and press releases have been broadly distributed.

 

So we encourage all of you to come out and join the fun, irrespective of whether you can bring a blanket or not. We especially encourage those on our list who rarely join us to come out and renew your acquaintances and meet the newer members of the group.

 

Note for Michele:  We are now four weeks away from October 21, so I would appreciate your getting an e-mail off to the ORC membership this week.  Thanks!

Some may remember before Jack became our social secretary with weekly write-ups that I regularly posted to my blog, Adventures in the Thin Trade.
