Today's Run

Fourteen or so showed up today, including a new guy whose English was limited.  If anyone got his name, please let me know.  He hails from Puerto Rico.  Lucy is from Costa Rica, and I am hoping she may have gotten to talk to him.  Lucy, if you do have any info on the new guy, would you please let me know?

 

I heard from Christine that she plans to return to work on August 31 and come out to walk on the first Sunday in September.  This is very good news! Coincidentally, Dede is a bit sidelined with an injury and is also planning to come out to walk that same Sunday.  Thus we may have the beginnings of the Winter Park Sunday walkers.  I plan to walk the first mile with them.

 

I turned into a klutz today at mile 5.5 by taking a header on an uneven sidewalk on Aloma at Lake Mizell.  I freaked out Debbie and Helene and they graciously walked with me for a spell.  Luckily I don't seem to have suffered any structural damage!  Just scraped hands and knees and a bruised ego.

 

Celebration of Running 5K

We had a good showing for our Sunday group at yesterday's 5K.  The new route is much better than in prior years with the substitution of a trail for part of the course.  (a trail that I did know existed).

 

I counted ten of the group who raced, and there may have been more.  We competed in age groups from 25 to 75, a nice 50 years span.  That ranged from Cheryl and Richard (the kids) Debbie, Helene, Kristi and Kirsty in the mid section and Rose, Barbara and me representing the senior citizens.  Dave had the 50's age group covered. As far as I could tell, Rose was the only one who placed in her age category, that with a first place (as usual).  Congratulations to Rose and to all who showed up!!

 

Not sure why this seems so funny to me, but I got beat out for third place in my age group by 22 seconds by a guy named Homer from-- get this--, Ocklawaha  FL

 

Pikes Peak Half Marathon

Dave Ramsey tackled the Pikes Peak Half Marathon today.  Our thoughts and support are with you Dave, and we hope you will share your daunting experience with us in due course.
