August 12 Run

Today's Run

It was a warm one and will be for a few more weeks.  Not too warm to keep 15 of us from showing up.  The surprise of the day was that John showed up after a year's absence.  Turns out that he moved to Alaska for a year with his family (his wife is from Alaska).  The good news is that they are returning, so we can expect to see more of John. Welcome back!

I had a very pleasant surprise when I got to Panera's to meet my bride.  The Marathonfest Sunday runners were waiting for me with not one, but two birthday cakes! I obliged with a two-cake birthday breakfast. They even sent a bike courier who caught me on Phelps and told me to show up.  It was a nice way to get back into the swing of things.  What was really neat about it was that Dana Summers, the Orlando Sentinel cartoonist, did a hilarious rendition of me running

Debbie and Helene, two of our Ocoee members, showed up today and they got to have a piece of cake with me.  Good luck with school starting this week!

Seth is back after his successful ultra tour and kindly provided us with water at his house at mile 4.  Thanks, Seth!

It turns out that Meredith was the one who put Ian in touch with a running group in south Florida.  Her parents are members of a club in West Palm.  Meredith has been traveling, but should be out soon.

Dylan is still bouncing around Rhode Island but should be out next Sunday.  Hurry back, Dylan.

First Race of the Season

Next Saturday starts the competitive race series of Track Shack.  It's the Celebration of Running 5K at 7:30 on Saturday morning.  It's the hottest race of the year, so things will be getting better by September 15, the date of the next 5K.  Hope to see some of you at the starting line!

Free tickets to the House of Blues

My son told me today that he can get us free tickets to the House of Blues for Saturday, August 26th.  His old group, "Junkie Rush" is re-uniting after a period of hibernation and will be playing that evening.  Please let me know if you would like to attend and I will arrange to get tickets for you.  I can attest to the fact that the group has some excellent musicians, including my son Matt on the bass guitar.

Have a great week!

Jack
