April 3 Run

A picture perfect day to run for the 18 people or so who showed up this morning.  Let the record note that no one may have seen Cheryl, but she did show up a bit late.  My wife Mary confirmed her attendance later since they passed each other along the route.  See Cheryl, you can run but you cannot hide!

Good advice for runners:

I finally got around to having Luis provide an English translation of a Gandhi quote in Portuguese on a shirt given to me by our Brazilian visitor a few months back. Thought I would share it with you since it is good advice for runners:

"Joy lies in the fight, in the attempt, in the suffering involved, not in the victory itself"

From our visitor last week

And we got this nice note from Doug Morton.  You may recall that Doug was a much faster runner than any of us and we sent him off with a map of the ten mile course, concerned about his not getting lost.  He really lucked out:

"I wanted to thank you for the map and kind words this morning......I started jogging with Tom then I saw Nathan Adams from Track Shack. --I stopped to see how far he was going.......he's a heck of a runner (10k PR is 30:28).....and he was waiting on a couple of people--. One of those runners happened to be Jessica Crate, the winner of this year's Gasparilla 1/2 Marathon. She and her friend wanted to do 22 miles...they are doing the Boston Marathon in a few weeks so I decided to run with them to get my 17 miles in. I ended up with 18.8 miles in 2:09:15 at 6:52 pace........a comfortable enough pace to get a good long run in and to chat with everyone the whole way. A beautiful day for a run and great conversation the whole run....what more could you ask for!

The Injured list

Ran into Carolyne at Panera's after the run.  Sounds like she is about halfway through the healing process with her foot injury.  Hope to see you back on the road soon, Carolyne!

Have a great week.  Look forward to seeing some of you at the ORC general meeting Tuesday evening.
