News of the Week

Since I will be AWOL for most of next week, I wanted to pass on additional news from people reporting in on their recent races.

Gasparilla:  Liz, Rose and Barbara did the 15K.  There was general agreement that it was a tough race due to the hot, humid conditions.  Liz also is not totally up to speed yet after breaking her wrist back a few months.  Rose finished 5th in her age category with a sub 1:31!  Good job, ladies!  And perhaps most importantly, Liz reports that they did not run out of beer this year!

We already reported on Jake's blistering performance in my last e-mail.

Texas:  Seth reports: "Yesterday I ran a sensibly conservative "Surfside Beach Crazy Hard 50K" (Misnomer. relatively easy lots of fun, 5:58:06) "

Dylan reports: "Logged my 12th marathon this morning. A new Cowtown course in Ft. Worth was "less" hilly. I am very glad I didn't run it last year. Today's was grueling. Humidity, hills and heat.  Worst clock time ever (5:49 in 70-80 degree temps) -- Post-race margarita took the painful edge off"

Notice how the comments are reminiscent of the Hashers. (Variously known as a group of runners who drink (or as) Alcoholics who run). (Given my choice, I'd have a Sam Adams beer!)

Princess Half Marathon:

Kirsty reports: "Finished the Princess Half today in 2:23 - a two minute PR for me.  I'll take it!  Now that I'm on break, I plan to start joining you every other Sunday until June"

Beth:  "I finished in 2:46:48. –on antibiotics—hoping to join us shortly"

(I am pretty sure this was Beth's first half marathon.)

We congratulate all of you on your efforts!  Also, I will be holding Kirsty and Beth to their promises that they will be joining us shortly for the Sunday Runs!!!!!

New Recruits:

We extend a welcome to our newest members.  They are a young married couple—Mat and Chanelle.  They first joined us a few weeks back and are excited about the group.  Please give them a warm welcome when you see them!  Kudos to Luis for an excellent recruiting job!

I'll miss you this weekend.  Have a great run!

Jack
