February 6 Run

Today's turnout

Today's weather was mild, but it sprinkled several times on the sub ten mile group. The rain came down harder on the ten miler contingent. We had a respectable turnout of 21 people, four of whom were new to the group (a young couple and two members of the Sunday Marathonfest group).

It was great to see some faces that we haven't seen in a while, particularly Vicki who has been AWOL for a pretty good spell.

I had a very pleasant reunion with two of my running mates from the early 90's—Geralynn and Kim.  Kim was visiting from South Carolina and Geralynn is a group member who lives in Satellite Beach.  We did a lot of reminiscing.

Condolences to Christine

For the second time in a week, a parent of one of our runners passed away recently.  Christine notified me that her Father unexpectedly died at age 56 in South Florida.  Our deepest sympathies to you and family, Christine.  We hope to see you as soon as you are up to joining us again.

Lady Track Shack 5K

There was a turnout of almost 1800 ladies for this popular annual 5K at Mead Gardens yesterday.  I was able to identify six runners from our group.  Rose, as usual, placed first in her age category at a sub 9 minute pace. Congratulations Rose!  Barbara, Liz, Amy, Carol and Vicky also competed.  Let us know if I've missed anyone.  It's tough to hunt and peck the results.

I also found it of interest that 22 women over age 70 competed and an 81 year old, Anna Kahl, was the second fastest woman over 70  and faster than most of the 65 year old category.  Amazing!  I want to be like her when I grow up.

Miami Half Marathon update

Alfredo reported that he also completed the Miami Half Marathon last Sunday with a very respectable sub 2:04.   He was part of a team which raised about $85,000 for Haiti.  Good job!

Reminder

If you wish to remain on our e-mail distribution list and have not been out to run in a long time, you will need to confirm with me that you wish to remain on our list.  I thank you for this.

Have a great week.

Jack
