February 2 report

Heard from our Texas and Illinois guests last Sunday:

Julie Schulte:  Hey Jack.  Thanks again for your help in connecting me with your group on Sunday.  Great group of people!  I ran with Dylan mostly and thoroughly enjoyed it!  Beautiful route and friendly runners......the best!

 

Brett Hillerman:  Thank you so much for allowing me to join your group on Sunday.  I appreciated the hospitality and conversation I had with many during the run. Please pass along an extra thanks to Seth and Luis.  Let Seth know that I wish him well on his upcoming Ultra season and hope he can find the races he needs to complete his Canadian quest.  In addition, tell Luis that I will be doing his 400M speed sessions--I hope he hits his goal of a 42 minute 10K. 

You do a great job of managing the group--thanks for having an updated website and being so quick to answer my questions. If anyone in your group ventures into suburban Chicago, please feel free to have them look me up.

 

News from group members

Congratulations to Wendy and Kirsty on competing in Miami last Saturday. Wendy did the half and Kirsty the full marathon, both with very respectable times.

 

Kirsty is planning to see more of us when her gig as a Galloway program group leader is completed in a few weeks.  We look forward to seeing more of you Kirsty!

 

I am sorry to report that Lynne's mother passed away early this week. Lynne works in D.C. and runs with us whenever she is in town. She shared the sad news with me today. We offer our sincere condolences to you, Lynne.

 

This coming Sunday we will have a long-time past member of our group visiting from South Carolina.  Her name is Kim Halley and she ran with us for years when she was an officer in the Navy at the now defunct Naval Training Center.  Kim pulled me through my PR marathon at the second Disney Marathon eons ago.  Geralynn and Chris also ran that race and both plan to be out Sunday to welcome Kim.

 

The Running Community in Action

The attached photo shows two members of our running community involved in an outreach program to help residents at the Coalition for the Homeless Shelter who are runners. Dave Sutton is our point man with the Winter Park Dawgs for our annual blanket collection and Sue Arbuckle, also a Dawg, helps serve meals at the shelter once a month with a St. Margaret Mary Church outreach program.  This demonstrates that runners are making a difference in our community. Also that running is a wonderful therapy for anyone, but especially for those whose lives are in turmoil.

 

Lady Track Shack Race, Saturday, February 5:

Good luck to all of ladies planning to do the Lady Track Shack race this coming Saturday!  It's a great race which I have tried repeatedly to enter, but to no avail!

 

Clean-up of our Mailing List

For some time now we have been carrying the names of runners on our distribution list who no longer show up to run.  We have periodically requested that people in this category let us know if they are no longer are interested in our reports. Beginning next week, we will be dropping those of you who have not joined us over the last six months unless we receive a positive response from you that you wish to remain on the list.
