Happy Cinco De Mayo! Tomorrow, come to think of it, tomorrow marks D-Day, June 6, 1944. I hope to visit Normandy and the battlefields in July.
Last Sunday's run drew a baker's dozen of runners and covered an age span of 58 years from youngest to oldest. Jarili, daughter of Jari and our youngest participant, was back for her second run with the group. She has signed up for high school cross-country and currently competes as a pole vaulter. Jarili set a PR for distance, covering 6.5 miles and pulling me along.
Some of our week-end warriors were out competing. Last Saturday Rose and Glen ran the Habitat 5K and placed first and second, respectively, in their age groups. Thanks to Billy for getting the results to me!
In the meantime, we had Wendy running a half marathon in Kenosha , WI . I can't resist snitching on Wendy. It's rumored that her next stop was the Miller Brewery in Milwaukee . That's my kind of carbo loading!!
Congratulations to the three of you!
The prior week-end Gina ran the Nashville Half with her daughter and daughter-in-law, but I haven't yet been able to track down how that went. I do know that it was exciting, however, given the weather conditions there! Gina is out of pocket right now, (visiting Ireland , I believe) but I hope to hear from her soon.
At the urging of Amy, Liz and Cheryl, my e-mail updates will shortly begin appear on a new blog on the ORC website: orlandorunnersclub.org. So you can weigh in with your comments. I resisted this initially, but Amy in particular can be very convincing, and Liz and Cheryl will be actively involved.
Hope to see you next Sunday. For those mothers who cannot make it, Happy Mother's Day!!
Jack

Thanks for your note and update.
On Sunday 5/2/10 I was in Long Branch NJ running the New Jersey Marathon.
It was already way too hot for the 9AM start and I was walking by mile 2 then wondering if I'd be able to finish by mile 4. There were more runners down on the course than I've ever seem in any of my 86 marathons and ultras. When the paramedics got overwhelmed and all the ambulances were tied up I saw volunteers loading downed participants into the backs of oolice cars. Local news reported more than 50 hospitalizations. I made the wise decision to slow down and walk often doing whatever it took to finish. Still at least they didn't call off the event as has happened in a couple recent cases and I managed to finish.
I'm on my way to Fredericton NB Canada Sunday 5/9 for my Canadian debut.
Report will follow.
I look forward to rejoining you and the group Sunday 5/16.
Godspeed, Seth
