Yesterday’s run attendance turned out to be a replica of last Sunday’s turnout—a bakers dozen of us showed. I’m sure that Mother’s Day reduced turnout, but we did have three mothers show up, one with her daughter. So once again, we had a three generational turnout. Belated Happy Mother’s Day to those mothers who were not able to join us yesterday!
Winds out of the north made the morning more pleasant. Tom Ward was a late starter, but zoomed on by in the Vias. He and Michele are fresh back from Salzburg , Austria where they celebrated Tom’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Tom!
The town was alive with runners at 6:00AM yesterday. when I started early to get in four miles before our 7:00 AM official start. Saw the fastie group starting early on Park Avenue as they whizzed by, and another half dozen or so of the Marathonfest crew who started at 5:00 AM.
For the time being, we have lost Kimmy to Colorado . She graduated from UCF last week with a Masters degree in Social Work and would love to find a position here. Please contact her or me if you have any leads or ideas. Hope you get to come back soon, Kimmy, and we all congratulate you and wish you well.
Seth again has been on a Marathon rampage (or is it yet?). Yesterday he ran in New Brunswick , Canada and last week he was in Long Branch NJ for what he described as an ugly Marathon . Seth—please let the group know how things went via our new blog. I sense Seth is headed towards Iceland!
I am posting Wendy's post race photo at the Miller Brewing Company after her Half in Kenosha. I believe she had only a half beer! Looks like she knows something she is not telling.
FYI, Amy, Cheryl and Liz have conspired to put these group e-mails on a new blog on the ORC website which Amy has set up. I initially resisted, but finally acquiesced. The good part about it is that you all can now weigh in anytime you feel so inclined. The blog should give us a way to keep in touch with what each of us is doing out there in our running universe. So please weigh in!
I got my ORC membership renewal notice in the mail today and noted that 23 years have passed since I first joined the club. I would encourage those of you have are not yet members to consider joining the ORC to participate in its activities and support those who are currently working hard to provide a great running environment for the community. The Club traces its roots back to 1976 and you can read about it on the ORC website.
Finally, a reminder that the ORC 5K will take place on June 5 at Blanchard Park and will be followed by a get-together. Unfortunately, I will be in Vermont running the Covered Bridge Half Marathon that weekend, otherwise I would be there.
Hope to see next Sunday.
Jack
