November 10th Run

Today's Run

With Park Avenue closed off for a car show and with our Space Coast candidates doing their long runs, it looked like a sparse crowd at 7:00 AM.  In reality, we had some 16 runners out this morning.  It brought back memories to see Cory, Kim and Claudia breezing along together.  These ladies are three of the finest runners in town for many years now. My last sighting at 10:15 AM was Dylan who was headed towards Park Avenue on Palmer.  Only 20 days to go for Space Coast!

I managed to eek out 11 miles as I ramp up for the OUC Half which is 27 days hence. If I can hang in, this will be my last half marathon in my 70's.  Hope I can repeat this race next year when I will graduate to the rarefied 80's group

Other Racing News

Wendy completed the Indianapolis Marathon in 4:34 last week.  She is on a roll!  Congratulations, Wendy!

Helene reports that she ran the Baldwin Park Half Marathon this morning.  No water until mile 3, no energy drinks and no water after mile 9. Sounds like the run from hell!  She and Debbie, the Original Ocoee Girls are slammed at work and miss seeing the group. Congratulations!

Gina plans to run the Town of Celebration Marathon and hopes to join more frequently in the coming weeks.

Update on Blanket Collection effort

We have collected 228 blankets as of today, most of which have already been delivered to the Coalition for the Homeless Men's Shelter.

There are still several initiatives outstanding, the major one being the Woodland Park Community 526 apartment complex in Goldenrod.  Property Manger Jennifer Converse asked to join in this effort and hopefully has a collection effort in progress.

The St. Margaret Mary parish and school were heavy hitters with 97 blankets collected.  The Track Shack Training program participants contributed over 50 blankets. (Marathonfest and Galloway).  The ORC and our two Park Avenue Sunday running groups accounted for 60 blankets.  The Winter Park Dawgs collected 20 blankets and also handled their own delivery to the shelter.

Many thanks to all of you who participated in this outreach.  Our campaign is an excellent example of runners making a difference!

Finally, a special thanks to Dave Berry who delivered of last week's collection to the shelter.

Have a great week!

Jack
