June 1 Run

Today's Run

We had a very healthy turnout today—easily two dozen runners.  Several people ran with the dogs, including Carolyn, Liz and Carey.  At 73 degrees with a high humidity, it was a tough slog for both humans and dogs.

Happy Birthday

Belated Happy Birthday to Bob, who recently returned to his home in Woodstock.  Bob just turned 81 in May and is doing his runs in a cooler but lonelier running environment.

Racing Department

The only one of us I am aware of with a major upcoming race is Wendy, who is poised to run Grandma's Marathon on June 21.  Good luck, Wendy!

Jorge reported on his team's performance at last weekend's Oviedo 5K.  Jorge's team from his parish accounted for 10% of the field.  He reports:   "The whole experience, as every year, was amazing!  So many wonderful stories from first time runners - we are just a small part of those accomplishments.  I ended up doing a bit better than last year, 23:12, 6th place in my category.  I'll take it!!

Congratulations to you and your team, Coach Jorge!!

Post-run Chatter

Some of the group retired to Panera's for a post-run breakfast. Christine, David, Dylan, Arwa, wife Mary and myself. We had a very informative discussion on heart attacks, stents and pulmonary embolisms.   Charline is bouncing back beautifully after her recent heart attack and Christine has survived and thrived after suffering from the  latter a few years back.

The takeaway for me is that while we runners are not invulnerable to health issues, we most certainly are well-positioned to bounce back fast because of our fitness.

We also signed up a new recruit during breakfast!  She plans to join us two Sundays from now.

Next Sunday

I will be playing hooky next Sunday.  We are travelling to Baltimore for the graduation of our first grand daughter from high school and then on to Newport RI for some R & R.

Have a great week!

Jack
