January 12th Run

What a Week of Weather!

I can't recall a week with the radical swings in temperature that we had this week. On Tuesday I endured a short run at 34 degrees and 44% humidity.  Four days later, the temperature was 70 degrees and the humidity 100%-- a temperature swing of 36 degrees and a humidity swing of 56 points.  Mind you, I'm not complaining—just observing and also thankful we live in Florida!

Those of you who contributed to our recent blanket drive (which provided about 300 blankets to homeless men in the community) should feel good about your caring.  The Coalition for the Homeless extended a plea last week for even more blankets.

Today's Run

Despite a contingent of the group either running Disney or working the ORC mile 24 waterstop at Disney, we had seventeen or so people show up today. The group had a heavy mix on new faces.  We welcomed Haley to the group.  She is training for a half marathon in Destin on March 2. We also had two last minute arrivals whom I did not get to meet, plus Brian who has joined us several times in the past.

Chris came off the injured bench this morning after about a five week absence due to a hip problem.  Welcome back!

Disney Race Weekend

Seth, Debbie and Helene ran today's Disney Marathon.  Seth has done every one since inception!!  Please share your stories with us!

I had a nice note from Debbie yesterday. For Helene this was the last leg of the Dopey Challenge (5K Thursday, 10K Friday, Half-Marathon Saturday and Marathon today)!!

Debbie did today's Marathon with Helene.  She says:  "I hope all of our Sunday WP running friends completely understand what you guys got us into!!!  Unfortunately, our marathon training took us out of rotation for the Sunday runs, BUT looking ahead it is a goal of mine to grab Helene as much as I can and return to our favorite group of runners! You guys have always been, and continue to be, an inspiration - even though you don't see us much!"

Yes, Debbie, we do understand and are proud of the two of you!

Katy Widrick

Katy is the Executive Producer of the Growing Bolder TV Show and part of our running group.  In the December issue of their magazine, Katy wrote a great article which offers inspiration to athletes of all ages:  "Move Forward, Give Back".

5K race for the benefit of homeless children

Speaking of giving back, a young lady approached us at Panera's after our run today.  She asked for our support of a 5K race on February 1 for the benefit of homeless students in the Seminole County Public Schools, Families in Transition (as seen on 60 Minutes).

Registration and info can be found at SeminoleHomelessKids.org. I hope some of us can make it.  Homelessness is a huge problem in our community.

Have a great week!

Jack
