Sunday June 17 run

Father's Day Run

Twenty runners turned up today and half of them are Fathers!  This was as good a turnout as we have had so far this year.  Jamie and Arnette arrived a tad late, but were able to figure out the course on their own, even though this was their first "official run" with the group since we added them to our distribution list last week

I related to them the story of Sabrina, who once ended up at Route 436 after going astray between mile 2 and 3. (Hey Sabrina, are you still out there?  We miss you!)

Christine, Debbie and Helene will be doing the Disney Marathon in January and are easing into their training programs.  Anyone else doing Disney?

Happy Birthday to Debbie, whose big day is tomorrow!

We had another new runner show up today, but I was unable to find out if he wants to join the group.  His name is Atef and he is a management consultant to hospitals.  I was not able to get his contact info, but hopefully he will show up again.

Jack Ramsey, our Colorado runner who has joined ORC, is returning to Colorado on Tuesday, so we won't see him for a while.  Actually, I may get to see him soon since Mary and I will be vacationing in Colorado Springs at the end of July.  Jack has volunteered to do a run with me when I am out there, but I won't feel comfortable slowing him down.  Colorado Springs has an altitude of 6000 feet, and I have never run way up there!  Jack is a veteran runner on Pikes Peak and will be doing the half marathon race up to the peak on August 19.  I am pasting below a portion of the info Jack recently sent me:

"Thought you might find this interesting, this is the group that I run with on Sunday mornings. Barr Trail is the trail we run up Pikes Peak (average grade 12%, 13.33 miles, 8,000 elev. gain). Yvonne Carpenter is married to Matt Carpenter who holds the overall record for the Pikes Peak Marathon. We get a star for each training run we show up for; an after season party in late Aug. provides pizza and lots of other goodies, Matt presents his homemade awards to all who have attended 45 total runs (Sun & Thurs). We train from the last weekend in Nov. until the Pikes Peak Marathon Aug 19th."

I don't think we should ever complain again about our Sunday runs!  Good luck, Jack, and I hope to contact you while we are on your turf!!

Happy Father's Day to all of the daddies in the group!  Enjoy your day!  Hope to see you all next week.

Jack
