Last Sunday in May

Today's Run

We had a surprisingly robust turnout for a Memorial Day weekend.  Beth brought along two friends and Ian invited 69 year-old Jack visiting from Colorado Springs.  The starting temp was a tad high at 73 degrees

We were pleasantly surprised to have Mat show up.  He and Chanelle moved to the Bradenton area where Mat is enrolled in medical school.  They had their first child arrive two plus weeks ago—a baby girl.  CONGRATULATIONS to both of you! With Chanelle also going for an advanced degree, they are going to be very busy parents.

Yesterday's 5K in Oviedo

I did this race for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised.  It was very well organized and drew some 800 people.  Apparently the race has been growing year by year for the past ten years.

Dave, Cheryl, Liz,  Ian, Jorge and I ran the race.  The training which Jorge and others put together fielded 47 finishers!  That is a phenomenal achievement and you should be proud of yourself, Jorge.  Congratulations to you, your team and your racers!!  Liz and both came in second in our age categories, and Cheryl came in third in hers

Two funny experiences with the law yesterday:  The first was to find out that one of the Sunday runners with Teresa Williams group up the street from us on Sunday turned out to be an Oviedo police officer.  It took me a few seconds to recognize him, but I am sure you all have seen him.  He's a big for a runner and looked even bigger decked out in his uniform.

The second encounter with the law occurred in Winter Springs on my way home.  I was pulled over for speeding by an officer who turned out to have a big heart.  He saw my race trophy on the back seat as he approached me and inquired whether I had won it at the race.  I said yes and the upshot of it all is that he did not give me a ticket!  I was lucky!!!

Thursday night, May 31.

I'm delighted that a good number of you can attend my talk this coming Thursday.  We are expecting some 55 or so people, many of them from our group.  The room will be configured to allow for about 75, so if you change your mind there will be room.

In the interim, we are headed to D.C. for the funeral of Mary's brother, so I will be away on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Will see some of you Thursday evening!

Enjoy the long weekend and have a great week!

Jack
