September 26 RunYesterday's 15K

Yesterday's 15K

A beautiful, fiery sunrise, with a rainbow appropriately framing Arnold Palmer Hospital.  That was the scene just before the 7:20 start for the 15K.  That scene was in stark contrast to the preceding half hour when we would-be racers were tied up in heavy traffic and unable to get within a half mile of the start line.  First time I had to race to a race.

I was able to account for a dozen runners from our group, half of whom I saw before, during or after the race.  Jake was our fastest man with a blistering 1:08:32 performance which gave him a first in his age group and 75th out of 1609 racers!  Rose, as usual, also placed first in her new age group. Congrats to Rose and Jake.

Kudos also to Jari, who completed her first 15K, despite being under the weather! I ran into Jari and Jarili after the race and was able to share her joy.  Also got to see the Anderson sisters, (Meghann at the start line and Kelly after the race).  Kelly is on her way to the Chicago Marathon two weeks out.  Good luck, Kelly!  Let us know how it goes.

Also saw Kirsty (passing me two miles out), Barbara (ditto), Carolyne (who was working the Dawgs water stop at mile 5, I believe), and Chad after the race. Missed seeing Rose, Sabrina, Cheryl and Glenn, who placed 3rd in his age group. Please check in if I have missed any of you.

Blanket Collection, November 7

At this juncture, plans are moving along for our third annual blanket collection for homeless men. We now have commitments from ORC, Winter Park Dawgs, Marathonfest Saturday and Sunday groups, the Galloway training program, our Sunday sister group who meets at the other end of the block on Sundays and one more group which has expressed interest and plans to get back to me.

Thus far I have only two volunteers to assist in what is becoming an increasingly complicated set of logistics, so please consider whether you may be willing to help out with collection and delivery needs.  Thanks!

Today's turnout

Only ten of us showed today, a rather typical light turnout after a race.  We have an official confirmation of the start of Fall, since Christine returned to duty after her customary summer vacation.  Welcome back, Christine, and thanks for getting me through five miles after my race yesterday!

I missed you all again this morning, while doing a tortoise-slow 20 miler that started at 5:14 but couldn't reach Park Ave by 7. Maybe next week.
