August 15 Run

A dozen people showed up yesterday.  We welcomed Sultana to her first group run.  Sultana says she plans to become a regular.  Justine joined us after being missing in action for a spell and helped acquaint Sultana with the course.

In the excused absences division, Dylan ran an exotic distance race of 11.6 miles while on vacation in Rhode Island.  Good job, Dylan, and hurry back!

Saturday's Celebration of Running 5K produced a lot of familiar faces, but I didn't see many of our group.  Rose, as usual, continues to blow away the competition in her new age group. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSE!   I eked out a third place in my first race as a 76 year old.  Ugly course, ugly time and ugly temperature.  Beyond that, it was a great race.  That said, over 1500 people turned out for their dose of  self-inflicted punishment  (Curiously, female runners continue to outnumber males, all in the 20-39 year age group)

For the second time this month, visitors from the UK failed to show up as promised.  I have a feeling they under-estimated the extreme heat we are experiencing.

Have a great week.

Jack
