June 27 Run

Today's Run

Following the trend of the past several weeks, we had a dozen people show up on a tough day with a 79 degree start for our last run in June.  To make matters worse, Dave and Kim got re-routed by a downed tree which closed Winter Park Road.

The good news is that we had a visitor, Chateau, who came all the way from Stuttgart, Germany, where she is a Captain in the Air Force.  We are honored and delighted that she not only found us, but also came from Ocoee to meet us.  Given her speed and her desire to run 10 miles, we were challenged to find her suitable company and had to call in two un-named reinforcements passing by at 7AM.  Luckily it all worked out and she was back from a ten mile run before Dylan and I got back from a six mile run.  She enjoyed herself so much that she is coming back Wednesday morning to run with Liz, Chris and me.  That's dedication!

By the way, anyone wishing to join our 6:00 AM run from my house on Wednesdays is welcome to join us anytime.  Please let me know if you interested.—Wendy occasionally joins us also.

Next Sunday – July 4th

Since the Watermelon 5K Race falls on Sunday, I am suggesting that we gather there instead of Park Avenue, since many of us plan to do this fun race which starts at 7:30 AM.  I am suggesting this for two more good reasons.

The first is that our Chris will be rendering the National Anthem on his trumpet to start the race. It took me 1.4 miles of cajoling Chris this morning to get his reluctant blessing for me to share this news with you.  From time to time, you will hear of the Chris Aycrigg Jazz Trio performing around town.  This is an opportunity to hear Chris for free.  He is a fine musician as well as my running partner for the past 20+ years.

The second good reason for joining us at the race next Sunday is the fact that the race proceeds will benefit our wounded veterans, so I hope we will have a good showing!

Have a great week!

Jack
