Today’s Run: We barely reached double digits with the turnout this morning. We feted Jake for his blistering 5K pace on Saturday. He finished with a 17:47 run and placed second overall in the No Boundaries 5K in Altamonte. Congratulations, Jake! Kimmy was looking for you, Justine. I noted that the fastie group who start at Morris Blvd. probably had twice our turnout today! We had an out of town visitor, but I steered him to the faster group.
One authorized absence was Chris, who was out of town celebrating his 25th Wedding Anniversary with wife Cindy. Congratulations, Chris. (Chris and I have been running together for over 20 years.)
I was very pleased to hear from Gina who lives in Clermont. Her husband, Rich, is now an Assistant Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon after his recent retirement from the military. Gina promises that she will be out to run with us soon. She is not gathering any dust in the meantime and will be doing the Country Music Half in Nashville shortly with her daughter and daughter-in law. Good luck, Gina!!
Upcoming Events:
Run for the Trees, April 24: Anyone planning to run this 5K? I am thinking about it.
Covered Bridge Half Marathon : Bob, Charline and I are doing this race on June 6. Bob, as most of you know, lives in Woodstock, VT half the year. We plan to follow him there a few weeks after he deserts us. (I am well used to following Bob. I have done so in the vast majority of races we have run together!) And we have done a lot of races together, including the London Marathon .
President’s Champagne Reception: Hope to see your smiling faces on April 21. I have no record of who in our group are ORC members, but if you are not, you will be missing a very nice party. I urge those of you who are not yet members to consider supporting the Club.
Visitor from the UK : I am expecting a repeat visitor from the UK on May 30th. His name is Richard Bruce and he ran with us back in 2008 right after he had completed the Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham , England . (I’ve always wanted to run through Sherwood Forest !) Since I will already have left for Vermont that weekend, please give him our normal warm welcome.
Other? Let us know if you have any races coming up in the near future. We may be able to coordinate training runs if you weigh in.
Housekeeping: Would you kindly let me know if you wish to “unsubscribe” The list is close to sixty names, but the turnout is much lower on average. Don’t be bashful if the above chatter is no longer of interest to you!
Hope all is well with each of you and that we will see you soon
Jack
