October 6 Run

Today's Run

We had a nice turnout—in excess of 20 people.  The weather lapsed back into summer mode, however, making for another challenging run. Mike did his long run with Ben yesterday.  Atif also did a long run yesterday.  Mike was the hero of this trio since he showed up again this morning.  Seth also showed up after a long one in Baldwin Park yesterday.  Tis the season!

We had several new faces join the group.  Marty and Chris each brought neighbors, Luke, our recent immigrant from Australia showed up and we had Simone (??), an ORC member join us.

No word yet from Abby, Debbie and Helene on their Ten Miler Tower of Terror Run last night.  Check in when you wake up!

The Injured List

On the heels of Danny having to abort running the Chicago Marathon, I got an e-mail from Lytle indicating she too had to scrap Chicago.  Lytle had a biking accident in California and broke her shoulder. She and husband Brian are currently living in Chicago where Brian is attending graduate school at Northwestern. The good news is that Lytle plans to be here in a few weeks.  Not sure about Brian. She sends her good wishes to the group.

Jeff also reported that he is nursing a case of plantar fasciitis, but still hoping to do the Space Coast Half.

Hope both of you heal well and quickly!

Sixth Annual Runner's Blanket Collection- Sunday November 3

As most of you know, our Sunday Running Group orchestrates an annual collection of blankets for about 300 homeless men who sleep overnight at the Men's Pavilion of the Coalition for the Homeless in Orlando.  We time the collection to try to beat the onset of cold weather.  I estimate that we have collected about 1000 blankets since we began this effort. So we invite you to participate by:

  • Bringing a new or gently used blanket to our Sunday run on November 3rd
  • Encouraging your work and other contacts to participate in this outreach
  • Volunteering to pick up blankets at collection points
  • Exercising initiatives to get others to contribute to this outreach effort.

Feel free to contact me if your have any questions or ideas regarding this project.

Last year we had a turnout of some 40 runners from our own and other groups.  Several years ago the "Lululemon" girls set up a water stop for us!

Have a great week!

Jack
