Today's Run
We had a turnout of 16 people today, many of them working on increasing mileage for their upcoming races. We enjoyed a more pleasant climate with a hint of Fall weather in the air.
Good luck to Abby, Helene and Debbie who will be tackling the Tower of Terror Ten Miler next weekend. This will be Abby's first long race. Please let us know how it goes and remember to have fun!
Danny reports that he has had to scrap his training for the Chicago Marathon due to an injury. He ruptured his plantaris tendon and tore a portion of his calf muscle.
We wish you a speedy recovery, Danny, and hope you can soon join us again.
Word from Kim
I exchanged e-mails with Kim this week. She has had a very busy summer plus a hamstring and lower back injury which has limited her running. She is on the mend and with October just two days away, I am hoping that both Kim and Claudia, our dynamic duo, will be back with us soon.
Mead Gardens 5K "Pumpkin Fun Race" on Saturday October 19
I've attaching a flyer which provides details of a 5K fun race at Mead Garden on Saturday, October 19. The race is for the benefit of outreach programs in Haiti by St. Margaret Mary Church in Winter Park and St. Stephen's in Winter Springs.
Running Safety
Once again, I would like to stress running safety, especially to our female runners. On my way to our run last Sunday, I saw a young lady on her own in the dark. Not a good idea. I urge all of our female runners to not run alone before dawn or, alternatively to put out a request to our members for company. No sense in taking chances.
Underscoring the potential danger, I am pasting below a report on an attempted abduction in the Baldwin Park area last Sunday morning when a 13 year old male runner had a very close call. Here's the police report on the incident which occurred in broad daylight: "Orlando police are looking for a man in connection with an attempted abduction that took place early Sunday morning. Police said a 13-year-old boy was out jogging around 8:30 a.m. when he stopped to use a portable toilet at a construction site near the intersection of Ethan Lane and Prospect Avenue . The suspect is described as a large framed white male with red hair, blue eyes and a goatee, weighing approximately 200 lbs. He was driving a newer model black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck," police said
Ben Pierce reports that
Hope to see you all next Sunday for our first run in October. From here on, the weather will be improving! Whoopee!! Have a great week.

Jack,
I was just reading the September/October issue of Florida Running & Triathlon that shows you ranked as the 19th fastest runner on their list of the fastest fifty runners for your age group. Congratulations!
