First Run of 2011

Starting the New Year off right

We had a respectable turnout off at least 15 people this morning for the first Sunday run of the year. We also hosted our first runner from South Africa—Merman, I believe. We turned him over to Luis, one of our newer regulars, and Luis tells me the guy really pushed him. Luis, by the way, was born in Portugal, but moved here from South Africa, so these guys had a ball reminiscing as they tried to run each other into the ground!

I noted that our Sunday sister groups both had nice turnouts also, so I guess New Year's resolutions are alive and well. Not to be outdone, the fast group had a visitor from Alberta, Canada. Charline's sister Leanne was here visiting and got in a bit of training. The sisters both qualified for Boston and will be running together come April. Neat!

Wedding Bells!

Extending to Cheryl and Marcus our best wishes and congratulations on their marriage yesterday. They are in the air somewhere between here and Maui as I type and will be vacationing for the next week or so. Have a ball!

Landmark!

As a testimony to my nerdy running qualities, I had the satisfaction of entering my run of December 31 and reaching the 30,000 mile mark. I came in exactly at that round number. My theory on this, however, is sound. It is that one can't manage what one doesn't measure, and I have measured the hell out of my running for almost 30 years now. The bad news is that I see the inexorable decline in speed. But that's what my "Age Adjusted Routes" are all about, right? On to the next 30,000!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

That's an impressive mark, Jack. At least to me as a new runner. Congratulations and happy 2011!
